AG DAY

Disco!

Green Day
We all dressed in Green We cleaned up in the out of bounds area near our room and the astro turf.

Presenting Virtues in Action at School Assembly.
Students who didn't take part in hosting Whole School Assembly two weeks ago, had the opportunity to present the virtue we are working on this term in Room 15.

Here is our presentation.

The virtue we are focussing is the virtue of respect.

During PRIDE Week we planted marigold seeds and looked after them to show respect.
Mine was the first marigold to flower.

In Room 15 as part of respect we show courtesy to each other. We listen while someone is talking and talk nicely. Everyone feels special in our room.

Words like please, thank you, excuse me, good morning and sorry are often said in our room.

Respect also means we show orderliness. We all help keep our classroom tidy and look after the equipment.

To show respect we co-operate. We work together, are helpful to each other and follow the class treaty.

When we are seen showing respect we get a voucher which we put in our kit.

House Spirit Day
On Friday 28 March was House Spirit Day. We all dressed in our house colours. Tui won.

Hosting Whole School Assembly
On Friday afternoon we hosted whole school assembly. There were students, teachers, grandparents and parents there. There was a lovely atmosphere and we did
our best to do a wonderful job of hosting it.

Totara team Grandparents' Day
We had about 40 Grandparents and stand in Grandparents come to visit our classroom.
Lachlan and Mya welcomed our Grandparents to room 15, then the room was a buzz with students excitedly sharing their learning with their Grandparents.
After sharing our learning we put into practise our sketching skills which we had learnt this term.
We had a picnic table under the tepee and then we played.
After lunchtime, we went to the hall and we hosted Whole School Assembly.
We loved having our Grandparents at school. Some of our great grandparents came as well.

Picnic Time.

Totara Team Swimming Sports
We had a great afternoon. There was lots of laughter and splashing, even those who weren't swimming got wet.

This was our opportunity to show our parents what we can do.

We ran across the pool.
We blew table tennis balls across the pool.

We were speed boats and we motored across the pool.

It was cold when we got into the pool.
We floated across the pool with a flutter board.
We floated across the pool.

We cheered each other on.

We celebrated each others' successes
Even our helpers got wet.

Pride Week
We had a great week studying our school values PRIDE, cool school mediation and rewards and consequences.

We used this time to get to know each other, the teachers in the junior school and expectations, rules, rewards and consequences  and how to get help when we need it.

On Friday we had 'PRIDE Day' in Room 15. We had lots of fun.

While the parents were in the Teacher Resource Room, we revised the PRIDE value of passion. We started off by singing The N.Z. National Anthem, followed by the karakia. Mrs Boyle read a passion poem to us, then she read Mrs Wishy Washy. The animals showed passion for mud! Mrs Wishy Washy showed passion for cleanliness.

Next we discussed what we are passionate about, then using play dough we created something we are passionate about.

After revisiting  passion, we looked at respect. Mrs Boyle read the repect poem to us and we discussed what it meant. We planted some seeds. We discussed how looking after them shows respect.

Parents came in during this time and we shared the work we had done in other rooms during PRIDE week.

Passion

Respect

Integrity
Diversity
Empathy

Mediation

Next we looked at integrity. Mrs Boyle read an integrity poem and then she read ' Rainbow Fish to the Rescue'. Diversity, empathy and integrity were values in the story. It reminded us to do what is right even when others aren't.

We made integrity fish and then played fishing for integrity.

For the value of diversity, we read a diversity poem together. Mrs Singh read 'The Elephant and the Ant' to us which was a story about how  we all need friends and it doesn't matter if we are big or small.
We looked at each other to see how we were different and how we are the same. We made a class diversity wall.

The last value we looked at was empathy. We listened to an empathy rap. Next Mrs Singh read us the story, 'The Invisible String'. After that we looked at a class poster that had us all connected by an invisible string (if we looked really closely we could see the connecting string). After that we made empathy bracelets. Each bead we threaded on the bracelet represented someone who we are connected to by the invisible string.
